What Fillers Actually Fix

Most people who come in asking about fillers don't have a wrinkle problem. They have a volume problem. Fat pads shift and shrink, bone remodels, and the face that used to read as a smooth oval starts to look hollow, heavy, and tired — even when you feel fine.

Filler puts structure back where it left. Here's what that looks like day to day:

  • People keep asking if you're tired, or if something's wrong
  • Your cheeks look flat in photos, and your smile lines have deepened into folds
  • Your lips have thinned, and lipstick migrates into the lines above them
  • Your jawline has softened and blurs into your neck
  • Under-eye hollows make concealer look worse, not better
  • The corners of your mouth turn down at rest, so you look unhappy when you aren't

If you recognized two or more of those, a consultation is worth your time — even if you're not ready to treat anything yet.

What a dermal filler is — and what it isn't

The Treatment

Dermal fillers are smooth injectable gels made primarily of hyaluronic acid, a sugar molecule your skin already produces to hold water and stay plump. Your body makes less of it every year after your mid-twenties. A filler replaces it in a controlled, precisely placed way.

That's all it does — and that precision is the whole game. Filler is not a wrinkle cream, not a muscle relaxer, and not a collagen treatment. It adds volume and structure exactly where volume and structure went missing.

You'll meet with your physician first and talk through what actually bothers you, not what's trending. We map the face as a whole — treating a smile line without addressing the cheek that collapsed above it is the single most common reason filler looks "off."

We numb the area with topical anesthetic, and most modern fillers contain lidocaine as well. The injection itself takes fifteen to thirty minutes depending on how many areas we treat. You'll see the result in the mirror before you leave.

Hyaluronic acid fillers are reversible. If you don't love a result, or if a rare complication develops, an enzyme called hyaluronidase dissolves the product. We keep it stocked on site and we know how to use it under pressure — which is not true of every place in this city offering injections.

That reversibility is why we start new cosmetic patients with hyaluronic acid rather than a longer-lasting product that can't be undone.

Three different tools. Most faces need two of them.

Filler, Biostimulator, or Neuromodulator?

Patients often arrive asking for one thing when a different treatment — or a combination — would serve them better. Here's the honest comparison.

Filler restores shape. Biostimulators restore quality. Neuromodulators stop the folding. They solve different problems, which is why combining them looks natural and doing only one, forever, usually doesn't. We'll tell you which you actually need — including when the answer is "none yet."

Areas we treat with filler

Where We Inject

For body contouring with injectable volume, see Dermal Filler for Hips & Buttocks.

  • Lips — volume, definition, hydration, and correcting asymmetry. Subtle by default. We would rather do two conservative sessions than one you regret.
  • Cheeks and midface — the foundation. Restoring cheek projection lifts the whole lower face.
  • Under eyes and tear troughs — the hollows that make you look exhausted. A technically demanding area we treat conservatively and only in appropriate candidates.
  • Nasolabial folds — the smile lines. Usually treated by supporting the cheek above them, not by filling the fold itself.
  • Marionette lines — from the corners of the mouth to the chin, the lines that create a downturned resting expression.
  • Jawline — definition and contour, and softening early jowling.
  • Chin — projection and balance, especially in profile. One of the highest-impact and most under-requested areas we treat.
  • Temples — hollowing here ages a face quietly and is almost never noticed by the patient.
  • Hands — replacing lost volume so tendons and veins are less prominent. See Hand Rejuvenation.

We match the product to the area, not to what's on the shelf

Our Product Line

Different fillers behave differently. Some are firm and built to lift bone-level structure; others are soft and designed to move naturally with a smiling mouth. A practice that stocks only one line has to make your face fit its inventory. We stock across manufacturers so we can do the opposite.

Juvéderm®
A family of hyaluronic acid gels ranging from soft lip products to firm structural fillers for cheeks and jawline. The most widely studied filler line available.

Restylane®
Hyaluronic acid fillers known for flexible, natural movement — a strong choice in expressive areas where a stiffer product would look placed.

Revanesse® Versa™
A smooth hyaluronic acid gel that tends to produce less swelling than some alternatives. See our Revanesse before and after results.

All three are reversible. Which one goes where is a clinical decision we make in front of you, and we'll explain the reasoning as we go.

Anyone can buy filler. Very few people should be injecting it.

The Difference That Matters

Injectables are performed in a lot of settings in Illinois — salons, wellness studios, storefronts, pop-ups in hotel conference rooms. What varies enormously is who is holding the syringe, how much anatomy they know, and what happens when something goes wrong.

Filler placed near certain facial vessels can, rarely, block blood flow. Recognized within minutes and treated correctly, it usually resolves. Missed, it can cause tissue loss or, in the worst reported cases, vision loss. The difference is entirely about who is in the room.

A physician injects you — every time. You'll be treated by a physician — Dr. Danny Del Campo, a board-certified dermatologist, or Dr. Danilo V. Del Campo, who has practiced dermatology in this office since he founded it in 1981. You are not handed off to a technician after a five-minute intake.

We manage complications. We don't refer them out. Hyaluronidase is stocked on site. We have a written protocol for vascular occlusion. Patients come to us from other offices when something goes wrong — that should tell you something.

We know your skin, not just your syringe. This is a full medical dermatology practice. If that "wrinkle" is actually a skin cancer, we catch it. A med spa isn't looking for that, and isn't trained to.

Your Customized Treatment Plan

A number on a website can't tell you what your face needs. Two people who walk in asking for the same thing routinely leave with completely different plans — and sometimes the honest answer is that one syringe placed well beats three placed everywhere.

So we do it the other way around. We look at you first, build the plan, then give you the number.

What you leave your consultation with:

  • A written treatment plan built around your face and your goals
  • The full cost of that plan, in writing, before anything is scheduled
  • A sequence — what to treat now, what can wait, and what doesn't need treating at all
  • Alternatives, including when a different or less expensive treatment would serve you better

Ways to make it work

  • Financing available — we're in the CareCredit and Cherry networks. Ask us at your visit.
  • Payment plans available up to twelve months

Treatment plans and costs are individualized and provided at your in-person consultation. Financing is subject to credit approval and lender terms.

What to expect

Your Visit, Step by Step

1 · Consultation
We look at your whole face, not just the spot you're pointing at. You'll get a straight answer about what filler can and can't do for you, what your plan will cost, and whether a different treatment would serve you better.

2 · Treatment day
Topical numbing, then fifteen to thirty minutes of injection. Most patients describe pressure more than pain. You'll see the result before you leave.

3 · The first week
Expect some swelling and the possibility of bruising, most noticeably in the lips. Most of it settles in three to seven days. Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and heat for a day or two. Don't book filler within two weeks of a wedding, a photo shoot, or a trip.

4 · Follow-up
We see you at about two weeks to assess the settled result and refine if needed. Most patients maintain somewhere between nine and eighteen months depending on the product and the area.
