Who This Treatment Is For

Biostimulators are built for that patient. Here's who tends to do best:

- You'd rather have a gradual change nobody can date than a visible one everyone can

What a biostimulator actually does
The Science, Plainly
A traditional filler occupies space. You inject a gel, and the gel is the result. When it metabolizes away, so does the effect.
A biostimulator works differently. The injected material isn't the result — it's the instruction. It creates a controlled, low-grade healing response in the deep layers of your skin, and your own fibroblasts respond by laying down new collagen around it. Over the following months, the product itself breaks down and disappears. What's left behind is tissue you built.
That's why the results take time, and it's also why they last longer than filler. You're not renting volume. You're rebuilding structure.
Sculptra® — poly-L-lactic acid
Sculptra® is made of poly-L-lactic acid, a biocompatible material used in dissolvable sutures for decades. It's the most established collagen biostimulator available and the right choice for broad, diffuse volume loss — the whole face looking thinner rather than one area looking hollow.
Sculptra® is given as a series of sessions spaced several weeks apart. Results build gradually and, in clinical studies, have been shown to last up to two years.
Radiesse® — calcium hydroxylapatite
Radiesse® does two things at once. It's a calcium-based gel that provides immediate lift on the day of treatment, and it simultaneously stimulates collagen production over the months that follow. It's firmer than hyaluronic acid, which makes it well suited to jawline definition and to the backs of the hands.
Radiesse® is a good option when you want visible improvement right away but still want the long-term collagen benefit. It isn't reversible, which is why we place it conservatively and typically only after we know how you respond to treatment.
An honest limitation
Biostimulators are not reversible. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved; poly-L-lactic acid and calcium hydroxylapatite cannot. That's not a reason to avoid them — it's a reason to be selective about who injects them. Technique, dilution, injection depth, and patient selection all matter more here than with hyaluronic acid, and there's no undo button to fall back on.

Filler, Biostimulator, or Neuromodulator?
Patients often arrive asking for one thing when a different treatment — or a combination — would serve them better. Here's the honest comparison.
Filler restores shape. Biostimulators restore quality. Neuromodulators stop the folding. They solve different problems, which is why combining them looks natural and doing only one, forever, usually doesn't. We'll tell you which you actually need — including when the answer is "none yet."

Where Biostimulators Work Best
- Temples — hollowing here narrows the upper face and ages you in a way almost nobody identifies in the mirror. One of the most rewarding areas to treat.
- Cheeks and midface — broad, diffuse volume restoration rather than a single point of projection.
- Lower face and jawline — restoring support along the jaw and softening early jowling. Radiesse® is often the better tool here.
- Nasolabial folds and marionette lines — improved indirectly, by rebuilding the support above them.

Two biostimulators, two different jobs
Our Products
Sculptra® — poly-L-lactic acid
Best for diffuse, full-face volume loss and overall skin quality. Results build gradually over three to six months. Given as a series of sessions. Duration up to two years. Not reversible.
Radiesse® — calcium hydroxylapatite
Best for jawline definition, hands, and patients who want some immediate lift. Provides volume on treatment day and stimulates collagen over the months that follow. Typically lasts twelve to eighteen months. Not reversible.
Which one you need depends on what's actually happening in your face — not on which one you read about. Sorting that out is the entire point of the consultation.
Biostimulators are unforgiving. Choose accordingly.
The Difference That Matters
With hyaluronic acid filler, a poor result can be dissolved. With a biostimulator, it cannot. Product placed too superficially, diluted incorrectly, or injected into the wrong plane can produce visible nodules or an uneven result that has to be managed rather than reversed.
That risk is manageable — it's largely a function of technique, dilution, reconstitution time, and patient selection. Which means it's a function of who is injecting you.
A physician injects you — every time. You'll be treated by a physician — Dr. Danny Del Campo, a board-certified dermatologist, or Dr. Danilo V. Del Campo, who has practiced dermatology in this office since he founded it in 1981. You are not handed to a technician after a five-minute intake.
Dermatology is the specialty that owns this tissue. Collagen biology, wound healing, and the behavior of the dermis are the core of dermatology training. A biostimulator is a wound-healing treatment. This is our home field.
We're candid about who shouldn't have it. Patients with certain autoimmune conditions, an active infection, a history of keloid or granulomatous reactions, or unrealistic timelines are not good candidates. We'll say so. Turning down the wrong patient is part of the job.

A number can't be quoted before the face is assessed
Your Customized Treatment Plan
Biostimulators are dosed to how much volume you've actually lost, and that varies more between patients than almost any other injectable. Someone treating early thinning and someone treating years of change need genuinely different plans — different products, different amounts, different numbers of sessions.
Quoting either of them from a web page would be a guess. So we assess first, build the plan, and give you the complete number for the whole series before you commit to any of it.

- The complete cost of that series, in writing, up front — you won't be surprised at session two
- Baseline photography, so your result is measured against evidence instead of memory
- An honest read on whether a biostimulator is even the right tool for you

What to expect — and when
Your Treatment, Step by Step
1 · Consultation and photos
We assess volume loss across the whole face and take baseline photographs. Those photos matter more here than with any other treatment — because the change is gradual, the mirror will lie to you. The photos won't.
2 · Your first session
Topical numbing, then injection, in about thirty to forty-five minutes. You may look slightly full immediately afterward — that's fluid from the injection, not the result, and it settles within a few days. You'll go home with specific instructions to massage the treated areas.
3 · The rest of the series
Sessions are spaced several weeks apart, each building on the last. Most patients start noticing something around week six. Friends start noticing around month three.
4 · Months three to six, and beyond
This is when the result arrives. We re-photograph and compare against your baseline. Most patients return for maintenance somewhere between twelve and twenty-four months.
