Botox® & Neuromodulators in Chicago

WRINKLE PREVENTION & SMOOTHING

Smooth the lines that movement creates — forehead, the “11s,” crow’s feet — without freezing your face. Injected by a physician at our Belmont Avenue office, dosed to your muscles rather than to a menu.

Where Chicago goes for skin advice — and where the media goes for answers.

WHAT NEUROMODULATORS FIX

The lines that show up when you move — and then stop leaving.

Every expression you’ve made for the last twenty years has been folding your skin in the same handful of places. For a long time the skin bounces back. Then, gradually, it doesn’t — and the line that used to appear only when you frowned is there when your face is at rest.

That’s the window where neuromodulators do their best work, and it’s why starting earlier means needing less later.

  • Two vertical lines between your brows make you look angry or worried when you aren’t
  • Horizontal forehead lines that used to disappear now stay put
  • Crow’s feet at the outer corners of your eyes show up in every photo
  • Your brows sit lower than they used to, and your eyes look heavier
  • Your jaw looks square or wide, or you clench and wake up with jaw soreness
  • You sweat through shirts regardless of the weather or the deodorant

Neuromodulators treat lines caused by movement. Lines that are there when your face is completely still are usually a volume problem — see Dermal Fillers. Most patients over forty have some of both.

How neuromodulators work

THE TREATMENT

Botox® and the products like it are purified forms of botulinum toxin type A. Injected in tiny, targeted amounts into a specific muscle, the product temporarily interrupts the nerve signal telling that muscle to contract. The muscle relaxes. The skin over it stops folding. Existing lines soften, and new ones stop deepening.

The effect is temporary and local. It affects the specific muscles we treat and nothing else, and it wears off completely over three to four months.

"Will I still be able to make expressions?"

Yes — if it's done properly. Frozen faces are a dosing and placement problem, not an inherent property of the product. The goal is to soften the muscles that are working too hard while leaving enough movement that you still look like a person with feelings.

We'd rather under-dose you at your first appointment and add a small amount at your two-week check than overshoot and have you wait three months for it to wear off. That's the whole philosophy, and it's why our patients keep coming back.

Prevention is real, and it costs less

Treating a line before it's etched into the skin takes less product than softening one that's been deepening for a decade. Patients who start in their late twenties or thirties generally need less per session over time than patients who start at fifty. That isn't a sales pitch — it's the arithmetic of how creases form.

Three different tools. Most faces need two of them.

Filler, Biostimulator, or Neuromodulator?

Patients often arrive asking for one thing when a different treatment — or a combination — would serve them better. Here's the honest comparison.

Filler restores shape. Biostimulators restore quality. Neuromodulators stop the folding. They solve different problems, which is why combining them looks natural and doing only one, forever, usually doesn't. We'll tell you which you actually need — including when the answer is "none yet."

Areas we treat

WHERE WE TREAT

FDA-approved uses

  • Glabellar lines (the "11s") — the vertical lines between the brows. The most commonly treated area, and usually the most satisfying.
  • Forehead lines — the horizontal lines across the forehead. Requires careful dosing to avoid dropping the brow.
  • Crow's feet — the fan of lines at the outer corners of the eyes.
  • Excessive underarm sweating — Botox is FDA-approved (under its therapeutic label, separate from Botox Cosmetic) for severe primary underarm sweating when prescription antiperspirants haven't worked. Ask about it at your consultation.

Additional uses — beyond the FDA-cleared cosmetic indications, which we'll discuss openly with you

  • Masseter and jaw slimming — softens a square jaw and can reduce clenching and grinding
  • Lip flip — subtly rolls the upper lip outward without adding volume
  • Gummy smile — reduces upper lip elevation when you smile
  • Bunny lines — the creases across the bridge of the nose
  • Chin dimpling — smooths a pebbled or orange-peel chin
  • Brow lift — a small amount, placed strategically, opens the eye area
  • Sweating of the palms

Three products. They are not interchangeable.

OUR PRODUCT LINE

Every neuromodulator relaxes muscle, but they differ in onset, spread, and duration. They're also dosed in different units, which is exactly why comparing unit counts between offices tells you almost nothing.

Botox® Cosmetic
The original and most studied. Predictable onset at three to five days, full effect at two weeks, duration around three to four months. The default for most patients and most areas.

Xeomin®
A purified formulation with no accessory proteins. Some patients who've noticed a reduced response after years of treatment do well switching to it. See our Botox and Xeomin results.

Dysport®
Tends to kick in faster — often within two to three days — and spreads slightly more, which can be an advantage across a broad forehead.

We don't over-dilute. Some offices advertise a low per-unit price and reach the advertised total by diluting product further and injecting more units. You pay for the same result and just count higher. We use standard reconstitution, we tell you your dose before we inject, and we document it in your chart — so you always know exactly what you received.

The product is the same everywhere. The person injecting it is not.

THE DIFFERENCE THAT MATTERS

A vial of Botox® purchased by a dermatology practice is identical to a vial purchased by a storefront med spa. What differs is who evaluates you, who injects, how the product is stored and reconstituted, how the dose is chosen, and what happens if you get a drooping eyelid three days later.

Cosmetic injection is a procedure that happens to be quick. Quick is not the same as simple.

A physician injects you — every time. You'll be treated by a physician — Dr. Danny Del Campo, a board-certified dermatologist, or Dr. Danilo V. Del Campo, who has practiced dermatology in this office since he founded it in 1981. Not a technician, and not a rotating traveling injector.

Facial anatomy is our specialty, not a weekend course. Brow position, eyelid ptosis, asymmetry, and compensatory muscle recruitment are things dermatologists train on for years. The difference between a good result and a heavy brow is a few millimeters.

We know your whole skin. This is a full medical dermatology practice. Patients regularly come in for a cosmetic visit and leave with a skin cancer caught early. A med spa isn't looking for that.

Your dose comes from your muscles, not from a price list

YOUR CUSTOMIZED TREATMENT PLAN

There's no such thing as a standard Botox® appointment. Two patients the same age can need substantially different amounts, because the variable is muscle strength — and you can only assess that by watching a face move.

That's the whole reason we don't post numbers. A figure on a website would either overstate what you need or understate it, and both are a bad way to start.

How we handle it instead:

  • We watch your face move and build the plan from what we see
  • You hear your exact dose, and your exact cost before anything is injected, never after
  • Your dose is documented in your chart, so you always know precisely what you received
  • Your two-week follow-up is part of the plan, not an upsell

Ways to make it work

  • Financing available — we're in the CareCredit and Cherry networks. Ask us at your visit.
  • Payment plans available up to twelve months

Treatment plans and dosing are individualized and provided at your in-person consultation. Financing is subject to credit approval and lender terms.

What to expect — and when

YOUR VISIT, STEP BY STEP

1 · Consultation
We watch your face move — raise your brows, frown, squint, smile. That's how the dose gets decided. You'll hear your plan and your cost before anything is injected.

2 · Treatment
A series of small injections with a very fine needle. Five to ten minutes for most patients. No numbing is usually needed, and there's no downtime — most people come on a lunch break and go back to work.

3 · Days three to fourteen
You'll start noticing softening around day three to five, with the full effect at about two weeks. Stay upright for four hours, skip strenuous exercise for the rest of the day, and don't rub or massage the treated areas.

4 · Two-week check
We'll see you to assess the result and add a small amount if any area needs it. We plan for this — it's how we can afford to start conservatively.

Timing for an event: book three to four weeks before a wedding, reunion, or photo shoot. That leaves room for the two-week check and any refinement.
